Having spent time with some of the greatest producers of the region, it was the traditionally made wines of Biondi Santi which inspired him the most. Three hectares of vineyards were planted, of which only half were used to create the Brunello that he became famous for. For over two decades now, the Brunello of Cerbaiona has ranked among the top wines of the region, often compared to the great Gianfranco Soldera. However, if you were to ask Diego Molinari what his secret was, the answer would be simple, it's that the wine is a transparent expression of the grapes and the vineyard. With everything tended by hand and organically farmed throughout, Diego would then crush the grapes in a vintage wood-sided press, before fermenting them naturally and aging them in nothing more than large Slavonian cask for four years. The 2011 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino may no longer carry the Molinari name on the front label, yet it represents the final bottling to be completed by Diego himself, and is sure to be a vintage of Cerbaiona that will go down in history. ✦ Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2011 ML 96 » $195 "...One of the protagonists of the vintage. There is no denying the sheer beauty and focus of this wine." (1554121) The Final c ur T ain c all
