With the same attention in the vineyards, the same careful harvest, and with a touch of mastery in the cellar, Guigal's Châteauneuf-du-Pape is likely the best value coming out of the Rhone today. The 2010 vintage provided classic wines with tremendous cellar potential. If you've ever tasted a mature Guigal, then you already know the heights which can be reached. ✦ e . Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010 JD 93 » $48 "A stunning effort and showing the class of the vintage...this traditional effort stays pure and lively...It can be consumed now or cellared for over a decade." (1631018) a n od T o Tr adi T ion c los St Jean has set itself apart as one of the most progressive and forward-thinking wineries in the region. Much of this started in 2002 with the revamping of vineyard practices, cleanup of the winery, and a move away from aging in old foudres. A focus on picking fruit at optimal ripeness was set into place, as well as using a mix of Rhone varieties. The Tradition is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Vaccarese and Muscardin, which see a long fermentation and aging in both new and one-year- old barrels. It emerges as one of the most aromatically appealing and texturally stunning Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the market today. ✦ Clos St Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition 2013 JR 90-92 » $48 "...Expressive, spice-accented aromas...Nicely concentrated and appealingly sweet, finishing with strong thrust and silky tannins."
