In fact, they can be so appealing in their youth that it can be difficult to imagine them getting better with maturity— however, past experience has shown us that they absolutely do. The secret to their success is simple: old vines, low yields, severe selection and a deft hand in the cellar. In 2014, the Clos de la Truffiere stands out as one of Niellon's top premier cru efforts; in fact, the quality is only a notch below that of his Grand Cru offerings. It's a wine that can be enjoyed today on its intensity married to a vibrant core of acidity, yet will also mature effortlessly in the cellar. ✦ Domaine M Niellon Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumees Clos de la Truffiere 2014 BH 92 » $85 "...Outstanding...deep, full-bodied, and nascently complex, with a rock solid core of fruit, excellent backend mineral drive... Excellent cut and grip..." (1359220) Pre-arrival The b aby g r and M ontée de Tonnerre is a Premier cru which is as highly regarded as its Grand Cru brethren. This should come as no surprise, as its location is separated by only a ravine from the Grand Cru Les Blanchots, along the same south-facing slope. In the right hands, such as those of the Raveneau brothers, these wines can be transcendental, yet at the price of a Premier Cru. The 2011 Montée de Tonnerre is noted for its youthful approachability, a true benefit while waiting for other vintages to mature in the cellar. As Antonio Galloni stated, it "is a marvel to behold", as cerebral as it is satisfying—the 2011 is simply magnificent. ✦ Domaine f rancois Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre 2011 AG 94 » $195 "...the 2011 is a marvel to of the great sites in Chablis."
