The Domaine, which opened its doors in 1950, is now run by the fourth generation and is producing a selection of elegant and highly expressive wines from throughout the region. That said, the wine that we are truly excited about here is the 1er Cru Les Plantes from the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Located in the heart of the commune, Les Plantes shares a similar soil type to Les Charmes, which borders the western edge of the vineyard. With its limestone rich soils and southeasterly exposure, Les Plantes is capable of producing a classic example of Chambolle-Musigny terroir. The Domaine Jacques Cacheux captures this expression perfectly, along with a floral lift and refined tannin which adds distinctive gravitas. ✦ Domaine Jacques Cacheux Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes 2013 $129 (1303171) g e TT ing T he b alance r igh T j ean-Marie Fourrier is not only considered one of the top producers in all of Gevrey Chambertin, but also in all of Burgundy. The style of the house is one of focused, terroir-driven fruit and raciness, yet with a clarity and depth which leaves the taster in awe. The only problem is finding the wines, as allocations go quickly, which brings us to their new micro-negociant project. From the premier cru Aux Echanges in the village of Chambolle Musigny, Jean Marie brings us the next evolution of their brand, one which allows fans of the house style to still enjoy a great bottle of Fourrier at a price that's very easy to justify. Renowned for his work amongst the vines in Gevrey Chambertin, Jean Marie now applies the same disciplines to the growers he works with outside of his own holdings. In the north of Chambolle and close to Morey Saint-Denis, Aux Echanges is one of the smallest Premier crus in the village. Its pure fruit and firm character makes for a perfect foundation to mix with Fourier's racy style. ✦ f ourrier Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Aux e changes 2013 BH 89–92 » $150 "...floral with lovely and airy notes of both red and dark currant... good delineation...vibrant middle-weight flavors...balanced and lingering finish."
