In the northern part of the Willamette Valley, we find Soter vineyards and the location they call home, Mineral Springs. Along with the complex terroir of the North Valley, the Soter family adheres to strict sustainable practices to create wines that are a true representation of the land. The ancient soils found throughout this region are crumbly and loamy, made up of marine sediments mixed with clay, which adds mineral depth and precision to the Pinot and Chardonnay grown here. Even through the aging process, which is carried out in caves that were carved into the surrounding hills, their focus on transparency and purity shines through in the Brut Rose, a Methode Champenoise that rivals the world's best. Sometimes it pays to think outside the box. ✦ Soter v ineyards Brut Rose Mineral Springs 2011 WS 90 » $69 "Taut, crisp and focused, with pomegranate and floral flavors coming together seamlessly on the long and lively finish, punctuated by a hint of pepper." (1712131) The r oad l ess Tr aveled F inding oneself is an adventure for all of us. Some people seem to know their path from the start, while most travel many roads before realizing their true passions. Kelley Fox spent years completing degrees in psychology, biology and biochemistry before finding her path as an Oregon winemaker in 2000. With the help of her father and years of experience she acquired working alongside David Lett of The Eyrie Vineyards, she started Kelley Fox Winery, with its first vintage in 2007. Since that time, Kelley has created a style all her own, allowing the fruit, vintage and terroir to decide the final outcome of each wine. It's from the Maresh vineyard in the Dundee Hills that we are treated to her most elegant expression of Oregon Pinot. Through biodynamic principals and personal attention to detail from start to finish, the wines of Kelley Fox are gaining national recognition and a reputation for being some of the best that the region has to offer. ✦ Kelley f ox Wines Pinot Noir Maresh v ineyard Dundee Hills 2014 $59 "Exotic bouquet of deep, dark red berry fruit, moist earth, dusty dried floral tones. Elegant soft textures contrasted by vibrant acidity. Pure red fruit and crunchy young tannin." E. Guido (1705320)
