Angela Osborne came to California from her native home of New Zealand after searching the old world and the new for the perfect location to realize her dreams of producing a Grenache in the style that she craved. That journey led her to the Central coast and the creation of A Tribute to Grace. With a portfolio dedicated 100% to her love of the variety, it's the Besson Vineyard that is now producing her most inspired effort. Located just outside of the Santa Cruz appellation, these head-trained vines have been producing fruit for over a century, just waiting for the right winemaker that could translate their inherent charms from vine to bottle. A Tribute to Grace has done just that. The Besson Vineyard Grenache is an experience you won't soon forget. ✦ A Tribute to Grace Grenache Besson v ineyard Central Coast 2013 AG 93 » $57 "...Vivid and beautifully delineated in the glass, the 2013 is super- impressive...done with 50% whole clusters and aged in neutral barrels." However, a long legal battle placed Joe Donelan and his team into a position where they had to reinvent themselves. But make no mistake, the name may have changed, yet Donelan continued on as a producer of California Syrah and Pinot Noir, which was well ahead of its time. The Cuvee Christine is the wine that Donelan is best known for, and it's the one they are most proud of as well. It's the result of a selection of vineyards, and is intended to be the perfect representation of the house style. A mix of both valley and mountain fruit is used to create the perfect balance, while a dose of stem inclusion and a touch of new oak add both depth and polish. The fact is, from the 2012 Donelan lineup, the Cuvee Christine comes out on top as the most easy to like and most likely to please all palates. ✦ Donelan f amily Syrah Cuvee Christine 2012 RP 93 » $59 "...the benchmark wines from, beautifully pure, full-bodied and showing well already..."
