However, those who had identified the true Trebbiano Abruzzese could produce wines capable of competing with Valentini, and possibly even outclass them. When Riccardo Tiberio started his winery only fifteen years ago, little did he know that it would enjoy the spotlight it's in today. Tibiero, now under the careful guidance of the next generation, Antonio and Cristiana, is showing the world what Abruzzo is capable of. The entire portfolio transcends the region; however, it is the 100% Trebbiano Abruzzese Fonte Canale that has the entire industry talking. In fact, Tiberio's Fonte Canale is now being called the "Grand Cru Chablis" of Abruzzo. ✦ Tiberio Trebbiano d'Abruzzo f onte Canale 2013 i A 94 » $49 "A knockout wine that ought to age spectacularly well...always stands out for its uncanny resemblance to a grand cru Chablis." It's here, at the foot of an extinct volcano, and well up into its black ashen soils that we find the Aglianico of Vulture and a small number of producers who are creating some of Italy's most important wines. Of that group, it's Elena Fucci whose one wine, Titolo, is now defining the possibilities of the region. Located in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture production zone, Elena Fucci carries on as the fourth generation of her family to produce wine from these soils of volcanic ash. Sourced from one of the highest elevation vineyards in the region, from vines that average between 55-60 years old, Elena's vision is to create a wine that communicates the potential of Aglianico and the unique microclimate of her home. ✦ e lena f ucci Aglianico Del v ulture Titolo 2013 ML 93 » $34 " and savory interpretation... autumnal layers of crushed leaf and black currant. Together, these various elements come together in smooth harmony." (1555140)
