Founded in 1985, Alain Graillot came to Crozes Hermitage with a love for the land and an affinity for red Burgundy. It was no mistake that the vineyards he chose had been farmed by hand and carefully attended to for decades. Alain continued this practice and decided to use only organic methods throughout his vineyards. In the winery, he prefers whole-cluster fermentation and aging in 1-3 year-old barrels, obtained through some of the top houses in Burgundy. The end result is a robust Syrah of exuberance, yet firmly rooted in the northern Rhone. ✦ Alain Graillot Crozes Hermitage 2013 JR 91 » $35 ...seductively perfumed nose. Fleshy and expansive..good nervy cut and floral persistence..." (1414021) TaKing cenTer sTage T he wines of St. Joseph have taken center stage in the North, not just because of their quality, but because of the value they deliver. In St. Joseph, Jean-Pierre Monier is the third generation to farm the vineyards and fields which have provided for his family. Up until 2001, the entire production had been sold off to a local cooperative, until Jean-Pierre realized the potential of his vineyards. Only five years later, in 2006, Monier had obtained biodynamic certification, a practice which he takes to heart. This is as far as you can get from the big business of larger producers. Jean-Pierre is a farmer first, who believes in the land and the vines. The fact that he's making some of the best wine that St. Joseph produces has more to do with his passion than with filling his pockets. The wines of Monier are a transparent representation of Northern Rhone Terroir. ✦ Monier–perreol press bottle St. Joseph 2013 (1414018) $39 St. Joseph "Chatelet" 2013 (1414016) JR 89–91 $40 St. Joseph "Terre Blanche" 2013 (1414020) JR 90–92 $49 St. Joseph "les Serves" 2013 (1414017) JR 90–92 $60
