It's a blend of 70% Merlot, and 30% Cabernet Franc, from the Côtes de Castillon AOC, which is well-known for its wines of approachability. Here, Derenoncourt allows the vineyard and vintage character to shine through, which in 2010 created a wine of unbelievable elegance and verve. Fantastic to drink today, but also with the structure to mature well for over a decade. ✦ la Croix lartigue Cotes de Castillon 2010 JS 93 » $36 "Gorgeous nose of crushed berries and spices with just a hint of milk chocolate. Full body, with lovely ripe fruit and a round and caressing textured finish." (1004030) classic charM a mature bottle of Bordeaux is a thing of beauty, which should never be passed up. Especially when the price is comparable to a current vintage release. The 2010 Sociando Mallet sells at an average of $53, making the classic 1996, direct from the Chateau at $69—an amazing value. Sociando Mallet is one of the most popular Cru Bourgeois classified Bordeaux. Known for its rustic, brawny, classic, yet utterly charming character and traditional style. Some even call it, the poor man's Mouton. That said, it's a tremendous bottle of mature Bordeaux at a remarkable price. ✦ Sociando Mallet Medoc 1996 RP 90 / ST 90 » $69 "...This beautifully made wine is better than many classified growths" RP "...Large-scaled, mouthfilling and impressively deep..."
