Unwilling to rest on past laurels, the new proprietor, Michel Reybier, wisely decided to hire Jean-Guillaume Prats to manage the chateau. For Jean-Guillaume, son of former owner, Bruno Prats, this was the continuation of a family tradition. Prats set out to design a modern, 100% gravity flow winemaking facility and to rethink the entire process from vineyard to bottle. The 2005 represents the full realization of what Cos d'Estournel is capable of. We -- and many others -- believe it may be the greatest Cos ever produced. ✦ Cos d'estournel St. estephe 2005 RP 98 » $295 "...exceptionally powerful, pure, and dense with a layered mid- palate that builds like a skyscraper." Robert Parker u nder the direction of Gérard Perse, Chateau Pavie was elevated in 2012 to Grand Cru Classe A, the highest classification in St. Emilion. This should come as no surprise, for the 100-point 2005 Pavie had already shown the world what these vineyards are truly capable of. Known for its diverse elevations, soil types and exposures, Pavie actually consists of three separate micro-climates, knitted into the final blend. This is a wine that combines unbelievable power with pure elegance. Often backward in its youth, it will develop beautifully for decades in the cellar. ✦ Chateau Pavie St. emilion 2005 RP 100 / wS 100 » $450 (750ml) » $950 (1.5l) "I love the purity of fruit in this wine...Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully-polished tannins..."
