A blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha with the remaining 10% Mazuelo and Graciano, which undergoes extensive oak aging and bottling long before release. In the warm 2006 vintage, Prado Enea benefited greatly from the high-altitude, terraced plots, from which these grapes are sourced. Here the climate is cooler and drier, which resulted in a long growing season and ideal ripeness. With each parcel aged according to its needs, Muga carefully selects barrels of varying sizes and origins. This attention to detail and a mix of experience, location and vintage, resulted in one of the greatest Prado Enea ever produced. It should not be missed. ✦ Muga Prado enea Gran Reserva Rioja 2006 JS 98 » $59 "This is amazing traditional Rioja with a complexity and beauty of ripe fruit and long aging. Unique. Full body, ultra-fine tannins, tobacco, vanilla, plums and prunes. It lasts for minutes on the palate. Three years aged in oak and three years in bottle. 80% tempranillo with the rest of the classic varieties. All from high altitude vineyards." (1634075) an insTanT classic l a Rioja Alta may be one of the best known names in Rioja today, and there's a very good reason for that. For decades, La Rioja Alta has managed to turn out some of the highest-quality, best-priced Rioja that our market has ever seen, all while maintaining a large enough production to supply demand. This is the result of 125 years of winemaking experience and the foresight to purchase some of the best vineyards throughout the region. A major leap forward took place in 1904 when La Rioja Alta acquired Bodegas Ardanza and their highly esteemed vineyards. The Vina Ardanza Reserva differs from La Rioja Alta's other offerings in that it is a blend of Trempranillo and old-vine Garnacha (20%). Only the best fruit is picked for the Ardanza Reserva, with aging done in 2–4 year old American oak casks for 30–36 months, just as a classic Rioja should be. It's enjoyable now, yet balanced to age. ✦ la Rioja Alta vina Ardanza Reserva Rioja 2005 wA 94 » $33 "Cropped from a vintage deemed almost perfect...great classical Rioja profile...a superb value for what it delivers..."
