He was often written off by critics tasting from barrel for his wines' light color and rustic qualities. However, like many great traditional wines, the secret to Jacky Truchot's Burgundy is time. After ten or more years in the cellar, the wines of Truchot blossom into the most ethereal, elegant and moving examples of these Premier and Grand Cru holdings throughout the region. In 1985 the first wines of Truchot found their way to our shores; yet even then, they remained shadowed in obscurity. It was only when Jacky decided to retire that suddenly the market realized that a breed of winemaker we had overlooked was about to go extinct. The wines have since become some of the most collectible examples of traditional Burgundy. We were very lucky to have procured a limited selection from Jacky's last vintage, 2005. These will not last long, and once they are gone—they are gone forever. ✦ The end Of an eRa: jacky TRuchOT JACKy TRUCHOT bottle Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Blanchards 2005 (1306454) $445 Morey St Denis Vieilles Vignes 2005 (130298) $315 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 2005 (130342) $385 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2005 (1306451) $345 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2005 (1306457) $385 ALSO AvAILABLE FROM OUR LIBRARy IN LIMITED qUANTITIES: bottle Morey St Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes 1999 (1306458) $445 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 1999 (1306469) $845 Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Ruchots 2002 (1306453) $445 Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Blanchards 2002 (1306455) $445 The 2005 vintage marked the retirement of one of Burgundy's greatest, under-the-radar producers, Jacky Truchot, and we will never see his like again. As if overnight, the world suddenly became aware of this true traditional-styled artisan of Red Burgundy.
