Region name Here nORTHeRn RHOne t he Chave family has been making wine in the northern Rhone for over five centuries and is considered by most to be the quintessential producer of Hermitage. They are always one of the last to harvest in order to achieve optimal ripeness, which they accredit to the intensity and rich character in their wine. With holdings in some of the most prestigious locations throughout the region, Chave continues to vinify each terroir separately, creating unique expressions from each sight. Many have tasted through these remarkable wines only to be left in awe. Yet no one would argue with the masterful blending of these crus to create the Chave Hermitage. While often hard to understand in its youth, Chave Hermitage emerges after 7-10 years in the cellar as a masterpiece of northern Rhone styling with seemingly immortal longevity. In 2005, The Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage came close to achieving perfection, with unanimous praise from critics and collectors alike. This is surely to go down in history as one of the most powerful, perfumed and classically-styled wines to ever be produced from the northern Rhone. ✦ Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 2005 $395 per bottle "Smells like a great grand cru from Vosne-Romanee but with a wilder side..."
