Borie's 1986 vintage began life burly and tannic and has evolved as elegantly as its maker, unveiling layers of dark fruit, spice, fig and cocoa. This is an exceptional offer -- all bottles are in pristine condition and were obtained directly from the chateau, reconditioned with new corks, capsules and fill before shipment. ✦ Ducru Beaucaillou Saint Julien 1986 $245 per bottle "A monster in its infancy. Almost black in color, with intense cassis, herb and mint aromas and superrich, dense cassis and licorice f lavors. May last forever." WS 95 (110260) a classicisT's bORdeaux b ordeaux has changed quite a bit over the last twenty years. Reaching for more intensity of fruit coupled with global warming has resulted in larger-scaled wines. This may be what the market demands—or maybe not. In the end, for the lover of traditionally-styled Bordeaux, the 2006 Leoville Las Cases is the answer to your prayers. Only 40 percent of the crop made it into the final blend–so there's no question why, as Robert Parker puts it, the '06 Las Cases "...reveals a strong similarity to its next door neighbor, Chateau Latour." Nearly opaque in its early years, it is now just hitting its stride. ✦ Leoville Las Cases St. Julien 2006 $229 per bottle "Classic aromas of sweet black raspberries, kirsch, cassis, and subtle toasty oak are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated wine displaying moderately high tannin. This cuvee can often resemble a Pauillac wrapped in the St.-Julien appellation, and the 2006 is no exception..." RP 95 (124615)
