MORRELL FINE WINE AND SPIRITS cALL 800.96.WINES (800.969.4637) • vISIT uS AT MORRELLWINE.cOM • cOMPLIMENTARy DELIvERy ON ALL ORDERS OvER $100 IN Ny AND cT 17 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux Margaux 2006 $145 per bottle The second wine of Chateau Margaux receives the same careful attention as the f lagship bottling. Though less complex than the First Growth namesake, it has the suppleness and warm fruit so distinctive to Margaux. "Delicate and elegant wine, with smoky fruit, ripe but freshened with a tight layer of acidity. It has delicious black currant juice f lavors, while the texture remains light and the tannins soft." WE 95 (16063) Troplong Mondot St. Emilion 2006 $134 per bottle Beginning in the 1990's, the late owner Christine Valette began a string of vintages that put the world on notice that this Right Bank property was capable of real excellence. In 2006, the property's classification was upgraded to Premier Grand Cru Classé. "Christine Valette has turned out another exceptional performance... The wine is full-bodied with a layered, multidimensional texture, sensational purity and structure..." RP 93 (16081) Providence Pomerol 2009 $139 per bottle One of the lesser-known but highly prized properties of Petrus's Moueix family, this 100% Merlot wine is a deeply colored powerhouse. As of 2013 its vineyards were incorporated into La Fleur Pétrus. "Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a beautiful depth of fruit." JS 95 (119021) Pape Clement Pessac-Leognan 2006 $155 per bottle Working with renown enologist Michel Rolland, owner Bernard Magrez has elevated this property enormously, prompting Robert Parker to write, " From this outstanding terroir, he comes close to rivaling what both Haut-Brion and La Mission-Haut-Brion are accomplishing a few miles away." "Full-bodied, extraordinarily textured, and multidimensional with an amazingly long finish..." RP 95 (16076) Malescot Saint Exupery Margaux 2007 $66 per bottle One of the Médoc's "sleepers." Much of the 100 acres of vineyard abuts that of Chateau Margaux, so it 's no wonder Malescot shares some of the same silkiness as the illustrious First Growth. "Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins, delicious fruit and a medium finish. Very balanced and nicely textured." JS 90 (100084) Le Clarence de Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan 2009 $160 per bottle Possibly the best "second wine" of any produced by the first growths, the blend of the 2006 is 46% Merlot, 49% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc making up the rest. "Full body, with rich, ripe tannins and a silky texture...dense and powerful...has just about everything Haut-Brion has in an excellent year like this." JS 95 (119070) Sociando Mallet Haut Medoc 1999 $75 per bottle This enormous (200-plus acres) property lies in the northern Medoc, just up the road from the classified growths of St Estephe, making Merlot-Cab based wines known for their brawn and longevity. In the past decade and a half the wine has been climbing steadily in quality and gaining raves, but it 's still a relative bargain. "Fat, full and sweet; lush & mouthfilling."
