Established in 1859, and now with access to over 500 acres throughout Burgundy, from the Côte d'Or to the Mâconnais and down into Beaujolais, Jadot is capable of producing consistently excellent wines in every price range and category. Their Meursault Les Charmes from 2010 and 2012 are perfect examples. Both are vintage stand-outs, hitting well above their price point and go far beyond the typical richness and supple textures often associated with Meursault. ✦ Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2012 $94 per bottle "There is a trace of exoticism to the pungent combination of wood toast, dried yellow fruit aromas...medium-bodied f lavors displays plenty of concentration...This is a robust and powerful example of the appellation..." BH 89–91 (1353034) Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2010 $82 per bottle "...Rich, explosive and powerful. I can see the temptation to drink the Charmes early as it is quite expressive...Endless layers of fruit build to the huge, dramatic finish..." WA 93 (137802) a child Of TeRROiR i t was in 2007 when Vincent and Thomas Morey split up their family's holdings, a family which has lived in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet since the 1600's. Having grown up in these vineyards while working for his father, Thomas gained an intimate knowledge of the terroir and capabilities of his nine hectares under vine, where severe pruning is utilized to restrict yields and deliver fruit of tremendous depth. Yet, the style of the house is one of precision; all while maintaining weight, presence and transparency of place. It is this same style which has won many fans for the wines of Thomas Moray. From his six Premier Cru holdings, it is the Morgeot, which thrills for its masculinity and savory meatiness. It's a striking wine of opulence, yet seems to hover on the palate in perfect balance. ✦ Thomas Morey Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2012 $74 per bottle "Sexy aromas of stone fruits, apple and clove...dusty stony underpinning to its sweet f lavors of pear and pineapple. Nicely fine- grained, very suave Morgeot with a long, savory finish." ST 91 (1355023)
