lOOking fORWaRd TO 2013 buRgundy BuRgundy t he 2013 vintage in Burgundy was about triage. Triage in the vineyards and paying close attention at the sorting table. A late flowering year due to the cool and very wet spring, (literally flooding some vineyards), yet followed by a warm and sunny summer. July also brought one of the worst hailstorms in Burgundy's history, literally devastating vineyards across the region. Removing damaged or rot affected berries and leaf plucking to increase air circulation for the grapes was key to a successful harvest. In the end, producers who were up to the task have turned out a set of fantastic wines, but yet again, we find ourselves with a small vintage. Buying 2013 Burgundies will be about making smart choices and buying early. ✦
