During that time, his rendition of the Serraboella cru had defined the terroir of this vineyard, which is now considered one of the region's best. However, like many Barbaresco producers in the '90s, he succumbed to the pressure to create a more international style of wine. Fast forward to today, with his daughters, Claudia and Silvia firmly in the mix of the winery's day to day operations, and we're now witnessing the rebirth of Cigliuti and Serraboella with a traditional leaning. These changes have placed Cigliuti back on the fast track to success, and year after year, a steady stream of acclaim is heard from critics. The 2014 Cigliuti Barbaresco Serraboella emerges from the winery cellar as a masterpiece of vintage character and structure, with the potential to compete against the best Barbaresco and Barolo. ✦ Cigliuti Barbaresco Serraboella 2014 VM 94 » $56 "... Dark cherry, plum, tobacco, smoke, licorice and dried herbs are some of the many notes that inform this decidedly virile, potent Barbaresco. Readers who can wait will be rewarded with a super-expressive wine." Antonio Galloni (1557126) Ju ST Hi TT i NG iTS S TR ide T oday, Giorgio Pelissero is a household name for lovers of Barbaresco. The recent vintages are released with top scores from critics. This is when it pays to look back to a producer's humble beginnings. Barolo and Barbaresco lovers know that these wines don't hit their sweet spot until 10-20 years after the vintage, putting the 1999 Barbaresco from Pelissero comfortably in its early drinking window. There are years of enjoyment ahead for the Barbaresco Annata, but there's no shame in opening one right now. It's a gloriously mature example of Barbaresco from one of the region's top producers, from before they were receiving the notoriety that they deserved. The 1999 Giorgio Pelissero Barbaresco Annata has rested peacefully under the care of the winery until last year, when it was brought to our shores and held under ideal storage conditions at the distributor until being delivered to m orrell. ✦ Giorgio Pelissero Barbaresco a nnata 1999 VM 93 » $84 "A dark, powerful wine, the 1999 Barbaresco bursts from the glass with notable depth, intensity and pure resonance… This is a magnificent showing." Antonio Galloni (1557102)
