xxx | 69 MORRELL FINE WINE AND SPIRITS V ISIT u S AT MORRELLWINE .c OM cALL 800.96.WINES (800.969.4637) W ith only four hectares of land, Pierre and m ireille began their winemaking life in 1974 as tenant farmers who sold their grapes to the region's negociants. As time passed, they expanded their holdings whenever possible, and, in 1981, they established the Domaine Pierre Giraud. Now the family holdings include over forty-five acres, with ancient vines in l a Crau, l es Terres Blanches, l es Gallimardes and Pignan (adjacent to Rayas). It's from these sources that they create a diverse portfolio of truly remarkable Châteauneuf du Pape. The truly classic Giraud Tradition is a blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% m ourvedre from vines that average 70-years old and are aged in concrete tanks. It is the quintessential expression of the classic Giraud style, which should never be seen as their entry-level effort. In fact, it is consistently one of the highest rated wines of every vintage. ✦ Giraud Châteauneuf du Pape Tradition 2016 WS 95 » $54 "Enticing, with bright, engaging raspberry, cherry and red currant fruit infused with gently roasted sandalwood and apple wood, garrigue and licorice root notes. A swath of tobacco underscores the finish, giving this an old-school hint." James Molesworth (1413144) F ROM Hu MBL e Be G i NN i NGS d omaine Giraud is the story of two passionate people who started small and gradually grew their business to become one of the most successful producers in Châteauneuf du Pape.
