L ocated in the town of Bruneaux, the m onier family farms 5 hectares (12.5 acres) of estate-owned vineyards around the town of St.-Désirat, just north of the original Saint Joseph appellation and on steep slopes of granite soil. For many years, Jean-Pierre was part of the Cave Co- operative, tending to the lands established by his father, until in 2001, when he decided that the location of his vines, and quality of his fruit, could create a Saint-Joseph to be proud of. It took some time for him to find his path, but over the course of ten years he moved from organic to biodynamic and non-interventionist winemaking. Today Jean-Pierre, 64 and a farmer at heart, has brought his son Samuel on board as the winemaker and allied with a family friend, Philippe Perréol, who brought his vines to the m onier portfolio. With prime locations around the original Saint Joseph appellation, and tended under the same practices, the Philippe Perréol fruit is brought to the m onier winery, vinified and bottled under Jean-Pierre's direct supervision. The combination of these two families, the prestige of their terroir, and the fruit of the labor has created one of the most exciting portfolios of in Saint Joseph today. ✦ d omaine m onier Perreo L bottle Saint-Joseph 2016 (1414056) $39 Saint-Joseph Chatelet 2016 (1414057) $45 Saint-Joseph Terre Blanche 2016 (1414058) $50 Saint-Joseph Les Serves 2016 (1414059) $65
