From the renowned Cote Brune, the Bonnefonds create the Cote Rozier, a varietal Syrah from schist, mica and granite soils. Cote Rozier showcases the house style with a slight, polished sheen rounding out its intensely dark and mineral- inflected fruit. l es Rochains, hailing from vines planted in 1995 bordering the l a l andonne vineyard, is the pride and joy of the Bonnefond brothers and their most intense expression. Be warned however, with a combined 300 cases to go around the entire world, both Cote Rozier and l es Rochains are sure to disappear quickly. ✦ Bonnefond Côte Rôtie Cote Rozier 2015 VM 94 » $69 "Deeply concentrated, palate-staining black and blue fruit... excellent depth and clarity." With just 3.5 hectares in Côte Rôtie, Gilbert and his wife continue to farm their steep-terraced Syrah vines, planted in soils of iron and mica-schist, organically, and by hand. e ven the replanting of new vines is done through selection massale from their family vineyards, originally planted in 1934, assuring a future of consistent quality. The production may be small, but that's exactly how they want to keep it. ✦ d omaine Clusel Roch Cote-Rotie Vialliere 2014 VM 93 » $84 "Concentrated but lively, showing excellent closing focus, harmonious tannins and a building echo of juicy blue fruit."
