In fact, they can be so appealing in their youth that it is difficult to imagine them getting better with maturity—however, past experience has shown us that they absolutely do. The secret to their success is simple: old vines, low yields, severe selection, and a deft hand in the cellar. ✦ miche L nie LL on rating bottle Chassagne-Montrachet 2016 (1356119) $94 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Champgains 2016 (1356116) BH 91 $145 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie 2016 (1356117) BH 90 $145 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean 2016 (1356120) VM 90 $145 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vergers 2016 (1356121) BH 92 $145 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru 2016 (1356122) BH 94 $625 O PPORT u N i TY iS K NOCK i NG F or five generations, the v incent family has owned and maintained the Chateau Fuisse, with each generation working to thoughtfully expand and improve upon their holdings and winemaking. Today, that responsibility falls to Antoine v incent, who has taken the Chateau and its wines to a whole new level. The potential was always there right under their feet, as the Chardonnay vines of Pouilly Fuisse grow over a foundation of fossiliferous limestone, nearly identical to those found further north in the Côte-d' o r. For years, the growers of Pouilly Fuisse have worked to establish a Premier cru within their appellation, and common knowledge among them is that the location most deserving would be l es Clos. l ocated just behind the Chateau Fuisse, the walls of l es Clos were built long ago to protect and delineate this piece of noble terroir. It's here that the Chardonnay grown is thought to rival that of Puligny- m ontrachet, Chassagne- m ontrachet and m eursault. It also happens to be a m onopole holding of the Chateau Fuissé. ✦ Chateau Fuissé Pouilly Fuissé Le Clos 2014 VM 93+ » $59 "...classically dry, displaying a tactile, wonderfully refined texture… A compelling wine of terroir, this really stimulates the salivary glands."
