Franz Prager was among those growers, outlining the standards that would set them apart, and over time, returning Austrian wine to international renown. Today, the winery is run by Franz's daughter, Ilse, and her husband Toni, who worked through the '90s and up to this very day to elevate Prager to the highest echelon of Austrian wine producers. A trained biologist, geologist, and historian, Toni took an entirely new approach to bio- diversity and terroir, locating the perfect clone for each unique soil type and exposition. However, a ustrian wine suffered a major blow in 1985 after a small number of greedy producers adulterated their wines, resulting in a number of deaths and a black mark on the country's production of wine.
