It all started as a collaboration and home-winemaking experiment between friends and colleagues, and grew over time into one of the most important wineries in the region, helping to define the category of o regon Pinot. Today, Bethel Heights remains entirely family-owned and operated, with Ben Casteel, the new generation, now firmly in charge of winemaking. For decades, Bethel Heights was best known for its estate Pinot Noir, considered the benchmark for the region. However, recently, attention has turned to the Aeolian, which comes from a parcel of vines replanted in 1994. l ocated within the estate vineyard, these vines began showing a unique terroir in their finished wines as they came of age. and so, in 2012, the decision was made to give them their own bottling. Now, only in its third vintage, the 2014 Aeolian has managed to surpass the e state Pinot Noir in the eyes of the press–a new benchmark has been set. ✦ Bethel Heights a eolian Pinot Noir 2014 WS 95 » $44 "This is aromatically pure...long and expressive mouthful of open-textured intensity and depth. Shows terrific presence and length." Harvey Steiman (1705461) W H e N T H e S T a RS aL i GN F or over twenty-five years, Greg Ralston has been an accomplished figure in the wine industry. In 2012, Greg became the C eo of e vening l and v ineyards, and, working closely with Isabelle m eunier, guided the creation of some of California and o regon's most inspired and highly- acclaimed Pinots. These two individuals are the guiding force behind l avinea. The talents of Isabelle m eunier are on full display throughout the lineup; her experience at Domaine de la v ougeraie, Felton Road, and finally e vening l and were simply a precursor to what she is accomplishing today. The focus at l avinea is on single-vineyard expressions with unique soil types and steep, well-draining expositions. Picking and choosing a favorite from their portfolio each vintage is nearly impossible, yet with the 2015's in front of us, the e lton v ineyard Pinot Noir stole the show. This e ola Hills Pinot benefits from the mix of Jory and Nekkia soils found throughout the vineyard, as well as the long growing season at elevations up to 500 feet. The result is a wine of dark fruit, minerality and dramatic complexity. ✦ Lavinea Pinot Noir e ola- a mity Hills e lton Vineyard 2015 VM 94 » $69 "Silky, seamless and appealingly sweet... impressively long, displaying excellent clarity and velvety tannins..."
