Yet she didn't stop there. While visiting o regon and the vineyards that would become Antica Terra, m aggie was struck with inspiration and the unstoppable desire to use these vines to create a new Pinot Noir project that would be like no other. That was in 2005, and since that time Antica Terra has gone on to define what's possible from this special location in the e ola-Amity Hills. The unique terroir of the Antica Terra vineyard consists of a geology that's far older than that of the surrounding area. o nly here do we find a prehistoric seabed, which forces the vines to struggle, without topsoil, within a fractured mixture of sandstone sown with fossilized oyster shells. As a result, the vines produce tiny clusters of thick-skinned berries, which are less than half the usual size, providing depths of primary fruit and complex tannins. From vintage to vintage the Antikythera Pinot Noir has grown in complexity, while also revealing a firm attachment to the terroir from which it comes. Now with the 2014 in front of us, a year that started a string of great vintages in o regon, we find a remarkably perfumed, powerful, yet vibrant Pinot that is only just entering it's drinking window. ✦ a ntica Terra Pinot Noir a nthikythera Willamette Valley 2014 VM 95 » $159 "Sexy, intensely perfumed … Palate-staining red and blue fruit… a deft blend of power and nerviness… strikingly long, sappy finish." For nine vintages she worked and learned under the tutelage of e laine and Manfred Krankl, until the time came that they insisted that she start her own project. Ne W Wo R l D : oR e G o N
