From its founding in 1977 to the present day, they have maintained a set of principles that have guided each generation of farmers and winemakers to continue a legacy set forth from the very beginning. With holdings in over 560 acres across the v alley, Newton chooses to farm only one third of its total acreage, while the rest is used to maintain the natural ecosystem and terroir of the region. Sustainable farming is also a way of life here in order to assure that only the best possible fruit is raised and brought to the winery. The Newton u nfiltered Chardonnay was a success from the very start, and continues to be a benchmark of the region. It's produced using fruit grown on Newton's estate vineyards in Carneros, where the heat of the v alley is moderated by the cooling influences of San Pablo Bay. This 100% Chardonnay then undergoes barrel fermentation before being aged in a combination of new and neutral wood. And, of course, it's then bottled unfined and unfiltered. It continues to be the most classic Napa v alley Chardonnay. ✦ Newton Chardonnay u nfiltered Napa 2014 W a 93 » $49 "Deep, layered and complete, this is a big-time winner." Robert Parker (1770064) T R adi T i ONS OF Bu RG u N d Y Mee T O L d-S CHOOL Ca L i FORN ia T he Hyde vineyard should require no introduction, it's the terroir behind many of California's great bottles of Chardonnay. Patz & Hall, Paul Hobbs, Ramey, Staglin, Joseph Phelps, Du m ol, Schramsberg, and Robert m ondavi have all sourced fruit from this location to create single- vineyard wines that have stood the test of time. The reason for this acclaim is not just the shallow loamy soils of this Carneros vineyard, but also the man behind it all, l arry Hyde. Now add Aubert de v illaine, the co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, who drives the viticulture and winemaking philosophy behind Hyde de v illaine. The combination of great terroir, old-school California know-how, and traditional Burgundian practices has created a Chardonnay that walks the line between the o ld World and the New. Reminiscent of Grand Cru Burgundy, yet with an intensity of fruit that only California can achieve, and with the ability to age for decades–The Hyde de v illaine Chardonnay pleases on every level. ✦ HdV Hyde de Villaine Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard Carneros 2014 VM 93 » $69 "... Dense, powerful and exotic... a Chardonnay built on structure and intensity." Antonio Galloni (1770065)
