These names are held in the highest regard for what they've accomplished in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation, and the list gets bigger with every passing day, as winemakers from throughout California look to carve out their own piece of this high-elevation terroir. Yet there's only so much room for growth. Luckily the trailblazers of the region are here to stay, and the best part is that the wines have never been better. Sa NT a C R uz iS He R e T O S T a Y R hys has firmly secured its place among the top producers in California. o wner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman have been experimenting for over 15 years, and the results of their work are obvious, as with each vintage, this property is gaining momentum and more loyal followers. Their Syrah and Chardonnay are thrilling, but love for Pinot Noir drives them and has elevated them to winemaker-stardom. o ver time, the Horseshoe vineyard has been the benchmark example of Pinot Noir from Rhys. This high elevation site sits on a ridge made up of sedimentary shale which developed over millenia, and is protected from the cold winds blowing off the Pacific o cean.
