Dal Forno's vines are located on the foothills of a mountain at 1000 feet above sea level, planted in loose alluvial soils. The selection in the vineyards is second to none, followed by another at the winery, before the bunches are laid out to dry for three months. e ssentially making wine from raisins, Dal Forno then sets the fruit on a fermentation process that lasts up to an amazing 18 months in French oak. What emerges is nearly impossible to describe in words, as many tasters find themselves grasping for a way to express what's in the glass. You may think it would be heavy and sweet, but you'd be wrong, as there's a balance, elegance and refinement to Dal Forno that is seldom seen in Amarone. ✦ d al Forno Romano a marone Monte Lodoletta 2011 d ecanter 99 » $350 "You'll be taken aback by the fine-milled elegance of this wine… and freshness, even though its concentration, power and textural presence make it a wine of absolute authority."
