| 111 MORRELL FINE WINE AND SPIRITS V ISIT u S AT MORRELLWINE .c OM cALL 800.96.WINES (800.969.4637) ITA l Y W hen the first vineyards were planted at Tenuta San Guido, the goal was to make a wine for hobby, consumption and sharing with friends. It was made out of a love for Bordeaux varieties, and the belief of original owner m ario Incisa della Rocchetta that the gravelly soils and maritime climate of coastal Bolgheri would lend well to creating a wine he could be proud of. The early work of Sassicaia wasn't met with the acclaim he had hoped for. Instead, it took twenty years, as early vintages matured in their cellar and began to show the eminence which Sassicaia was capable of. 1968 marked the first commercial release, which sparked the beginning of the Super Tuscan movement. Tenuta San Guido may have changed hands and grown over that time, yet this icon of Tuscan wine isn't ready to rest on past laurels. Instead, they are making some of the best wines in the estate's history. ✦ Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2015 W a 97 » $199 "The long-awaited 2015 Bolgheri Sassicaia represents a tremendous effort that comes together with seamless precision and focus... extremely graceful and silky. The wine's undisputed pedigree is showcased on the palate..." Monica Larner (1559284) Be TT e R T H a N eV e R The 2015 vintage will always be remembered on the Tuscan coast as the vintage that firmly shined the spotlight back on Super Tuscans. We are witnessing the highest acclaim from critics in years, and standing out above them all–is the wine that started it all–Sassicaia.
