Yet, when the opportunity arose to procure the highly-regarded Spuntali vineyard, located deep in the southern reaches of the region, v al di Suga took the plunge. l ooking to express the importance of terroir, and show the vast difference between m ontalcino's north and south, the decision was made to produce two separate bottles, and so v igna del l ago (from the north) and v igna Spuntali (from the south) were created. Today these two wines continue to offer unique expressions from vintage to vintage, yet in 2010, the v igna Spuntali, released as a riserva after five years of aging, came out on top. l ocated in the warmest part of m ontalcino, with a southern exposition, the v igna Spuntali excelled by contrasting its rich, intense fruit against the firm tannins of the classic 2010 vintage. Aided by an extended period maturing in barrel and only just released to the public, it's a Brunello to last the ages. ✦ Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Spuntali 2010 W a 95 » $79 "...
