It was from this northern corner of m ontalcino that the brand Gianni Brunelli Brunello was born, proudly labeled with a painting of his mother, e lvira. o ver time, the wines gained cult status, renowned for their traditional style, pleasing nature, and attractive rusticity. The production had grown as well, as Gianni expanded his holdings throughout m ontalcino, and the wines benefited from the diversity of climates from north to south and east to west. Gianni Brunelli was on the tip of nearly every Brunello collector's tongue; you couldn't ask for a more enjoyable and dependable bottle of Brunello from vintage to vintage. u nfortunately, Gianni died in 2008, yet his wife l aura didn't miss a beat, as she quickly assumed control of the winery and continued work in the vineyards. Today, the wines of Gianni Brunelli are just as good as they were when made by Gianni himself. The winery continues to be focused on family and the importance of producing hand- tailored wines that speak of m ontalcino and Sangiovese above all else. ✦ Gianni Brunelli Brunello di Montalcino 2013 W e 95 » $68 "Alluring aromas...Elegant linear palate...Well balanced, with taut fine-grained tannins and bright acidity."
